Let Me Spill These Words

Let me spill these words
Something you may know
When love leaves
It feels like concertina wire
Slicing skin
In every direction
Tangled in its web
Gasping for breath
On a mountain peak

Anxiety haunts
Rips
Releases
Reels
Tumbles
Over and over
Reminding you
The person you’ve
Given so much to
Has taken your life
As if you needed reminding
Lungs collapse useless
Splashing alone in an undercurrent
Of a stormy sea

And you learn
That there are those that love
and those that are loved

You envelope
Feelings, repressing
Each moment slowly
In your minds grainy film projector
Puzzled to make sense
The mistakes
The endless efforts
Of undying devotion
Trying to hold
Water through hands
Leaving you in a puddle of tears
On cold wood floor
